New Blog, Plus a Revamped Website

Welcome to my blog affiliated with my "official" website, www.brucepersons.com!

As explained in my “official” website, God has called me not only to follow Christ and preach the Gospel, but also to write. This blog will give me a wonderful opportunity to share my thoughts with you, what God has been teaching me, what I have done lately, and to encourage you in your journey with Jesus. Among many things, I will post occasional inspirational posts and pictures, write theological (and sometimes controversial) pieces, share a video blog (a.k.a. “vlog”) in American Sign Language, and highlight specific people or organizations for you to check out from time to time. It is my hope and prayer that God will bless you through my activities here.

Why a new blog now and today?

Two reasons:

1) Because my “official” website just got a breath of new life with a complete makeover - check it out if you have not done so yet! Here’s the website: www.brucepersons.com.

2) I just graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University this past May, and my previous blog maintained during my seminary years (the Deaf Seminarian) is being replaced with this one.

Why did you title this blog, “Gleanings from the Field?”

Again, two reasons:

1) I love living in the Maryland countryside, and I grew up on my parents’ farm. I often retreat to rural areas to commune with the Living God. The solace of country living gives my soul the rest and respite it needs from the daily pressures of Christian ministry and life in general. Looking across a wide expanse of farm fields is one component of the countryside.

2) As a minister of the Gospel, my primary calling is to love the Lord completely and love others compassionately. I am charged with the tasks of not just going out into God’s harvest field with the Good News but also praying for more workers to be sent in the harvest field. Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 9:38 and Luke 10:2, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” There are only a few laborers working in the harvest field of the world –- how much less there are for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people!
